Hello. It’s my birthday! Thank you all for the kind messages and birthday wishes you sent in to me. To be honest, I don’t particularly feel like doing this today, but I realize it’s become a sort of tradition within the band community and would like to honour that with a little something. I don’t have anything profound to offer this morning, but I would like to say that I am grateful to have made it to the nice age of forty-nine, and to be feeling as good as I do about myself and the world I live in. (Cue sunshine…)
So in the spirit of keeping things simple I’m just going to dedicate my birthday today to four bass players who came before me, inspired me to play and continue to inspire me to play, even though they have all been gone for some time now;

EMI is proud to announce the release of a 2-CD and Vinyl Special Edition of Duran Duran’s classic 1982 album, ‘Rio’, and a previously-unreleased live DVD/CD concert, ‘Live At Hammersmith ‘82!’
‘Rio’ was Duran Duran’s second album and is as representative of the 1980s as it gets, at its best. A fusion of style and substance ensures that even two decades after its release it remains as listenable and danceable as ever. Through the sheer quality of its singles – Rio, Hungry Like The Wolf, Save A Prayer – and their accompanying, ground-breaking videos - which were heavily rotated on MTV - ‘Rio’ saw the band break the U.S., with the album spending a staggering 129 weeks on the Billboard 200 Chart.
The ‘Rio’ 2 CD Special Edition is made up of the UK release of the album, the original U.S. album remixes (enabling U.S. listeners to programme their CD to be able to listen to the original version), EMI Manchester Square demos, B-Sides, remixes and other surprises (see below for tracklisting).
The digital download version has 2 extra tracks.
The LP & 12” vinyl special edition is the original UK album on LP and the U.S. album remixes on the 12”.
LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH 82! is a much anticipated release among followers of the band. Previously unreleased, it will come as a double DVD and CD pack, allowing fans to both enjoy the visual spectacle of the concert and CD audio, too. Filmed and recorded in the latter part of 1982 as Duranmania was sweeping the UK, the performance at London’s Hammersmith Odeon includes ‘Rio’, ‘Hungry like the Wolf’, ‘Girls on Film’, fan favourite ‘Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)’ and more. The release also includes ‘Rio’ era videos and two previously unreleased ‘Top of the Pops’ performances. The concert is also available as an audio digital download.

Duran Duran Confirm Final US Summer Dates
July 7th in San Francisco, CA & July 10th in Las Vegas, NV
Shortly after announcing three US shows – July 5th in Redmond, WA at the Marrymoor Amphitheatre, July 8th in Saratoga, CA at the Mountain Winery and July 11th at The Pacific Amphitheatre in Orange County, CA, - Duran Duran have confirmed two final US dates, as part of a limited run along the West Coast.
In addition to the already announced shows, the band will perform July 7th at the famed Fillmore venue in San Francisco, CA and on July 10th they will play at the Pearl at The Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. After wrapping up in Orange County, Duran Duran will head home to the UK for a July 16th date at Edinburgh Castle, in Scotland, followed by their headlining slot at the Lovebox Festival in London on July 18th.
Duran Duran have spent the first few months of this year in the studio writing and recording new material with producer Mark Ronson, and will be taking a short break from this to hit the stage again for these select summer performances.

I’ve never been big on celebrating my own birthday, especially as a kid, when I really was the ‘the quiet one at the back of the class’ - and was quite happy to let the thing pass everyone by as it would only bring more unwanted attention. As soon as I became a member of DD though, my birthday was suddenly broadcast to the world and I would disappear under an avalanche of cards, soft toys and best wishes.
These days I invariably start to get a twinge of excitement in my stomach a couple of weeks before my Birthday because now I realise what a great day it is when it’s your birthday, and how it is something that everyone should celebrate to the extreme … so thanks to everyone out there in DD world for every message or gift you have sent over the years. As each new birthday approaches I do wonder how many greetings I will get, and you never fail to
impress me with your kindness and generosity.
As you know, Duran are playing some dates this summer, which we’re very excited about. A few in the US, a few in the UK and one in Russia are on deck so far, and since we enjoy playing live so much, I can say without any hesitation that we’re all looking forward to seeing you out on the road –
hope you can make at least one date….and you never know, a song from the new album sessions COULD pop in to the set list.
I also hope to be doing some more DJ gigs over the summer months, so please keep checking duranduran.com for information on that.
We’re also happy to be hard at work in the studio, writing some really great sounding new music. Dare I say there could be a Duran Duran release in 2009? There! I’ve said it….with us, anything is possible!

Two Shows Confirmed for July 5th in Redmond, WA & July 8th in Saratoga, CA

Die englische Popgruppe “Duran Duran” soll am 4. Juni im Rahmen des Petersburger Wirtschaftsforums auf dem Schlossplatz konzertieren, meldet die Nachrichtenagentur Ria-Nowosti. Als Special Guest wird die Sängerin Anastacia auftreten - vorausgesetzt es läuft alles wie geplant. Bisher musste noch jedes Konzert durch den gestrengen Eremitage-Direktor Michail Piotrowski abgesegnet werden.
Die 1978 in Birmingham gegründete Musikformation gehört der Stilrichtung der in den Achtzigerjahren aufkommenden “New Romantics” an und hat bisher weltweit rund 100 Millionen Tonträger verkauft. Die Band wurde unter anderem durch ihr Titelthema im Bond-Film “A View To A Kill” bekannt. Die 1968 geborene Sängerin Anastacia stammt aus den USA. Ihr gelang 1998 mit ihrer Teilnahme am MTV-Gesangswettbewerb The Cut der Durchbruch, dem eine erfolgreiche Karriere vor allem in Europa folgte.

Duran Duran Return To The US
Show Confirmed for July 11th At The Pacific Amphitheatre In Orange County, CA

Speaking from the studio in London, where they are currently working on a new album with producer Mark Ronson, Duran Duran today confirmed a one-off summer performance at the Orange Country Fair in California on July 11th. This will be one of a handful of select shows that the band are committing to play in the US and Europe this summer. A few days after the OC date they will head home to the UK for two recently confirmed shows: the first, on July 16th at Scotland’s historic Edinburgh Castle, and the second a headlining slot at London’s ultra-hip Lovebox Festival on July 18th.
The band members are thrilled to be bringing their live show back to audiences at the Pacific Amphitheater, following the 16 month-long success of their 2007/8 Red Carpet Massacre World Tour.
Tickets for the OC show are available from April 11th on ticketmaster.com.

Vocals - Justin Timberlake
The most elastic blue-eyed soul singer around. A great dancer. For the deeper shades of blue I'd like John Legend, whose voice I'm in awe of. Katherine Jenkins, Rihanna and Beyoncé could doo-wop.
Guitars - Nile Rodgers and Steve Jones
On rhythm I'd like Nile Rodgers of Chic. Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols would play lead; he can punch a hole in the sky.
Bass - Stuart Zender
If I sit out, I'd hire Zender, who was Jamiroquai's bassist and now plays with Mark Ronson.
Piano - Jools Holland
This is a tough one, but I like the one-man boogie-woogie party.
Drums - Phil Collins and Bill Bruford
I saw them double drum together to spectacular effect many years ago and never forgot.
