WHEN I CAME TO - IT WAS ALREADY SPRING... UPDATE FROM ANDY

After a blinding birthday party, (organised by the beautiful Tracey) which lasted a little longer than originally planned, we went into "bunker mentality" to finish up some more, new Andy & Liam material - 4-new songs in total, because we are planning to have the "body of work" completed for Summer... so far so good in this camp, oh but we are momentarily... "Daveless" - a new one is on the way, Ibiza has its way again!!!
Anyway, Iam not really one for promoting song titles without actually presenting the tracks in question, so I won't, however I will be putting up a new song within the next few days as we complete the lyrics. Which will mean removing one of the current titles as you can only add 4-songs at any one time, so which ever one is deleted please do not be offended.
And thank god for school holidays (half-term) always a good excuse to bugger of somewhere and often the only chance you get as a family.
Iam quite chuffed this week as Young Andy's band are opening up for The Who at the Royal Albert Hall in March for the excellent Teenage cancer Trust, and at Roger Daltery's request - there goes the retirement plan!!!
Recording studios have a very elusive, creative appeal to artists and are generally intriguing places, however they are also technical nightmares, which require constant care & maintenance and we are at the quarterly maintenance period in the calendar - I could get so geeky here but I won't. However I will give you a basic idea of what it's about.
Modern audio recording is all captured on hard disk. You can sample at 96k - 24-bit - on pro-tools HD - and record as near as you can to perfect audio. This is achieved with extremely powerful software & processing, precision sycronisation & analogue/digital conversion. To fulfill the full potential of the new recording systems you not only have to maintain an analogue recording environment - drums - guitars - microphones - pre amps etc etc (known as old school), but also a clinical, sanatised computer environment - on a desert island - patience becomes the only virtue.
Its like maintaining a formula 1 car, often with a different driver each day, & just like cars, computers crash - if you over use or abuse their engineering - irrespective of that fact, we all push the shit to the limits & then just as you settle with one version of software - there's a new version available.
We are also fitting new studio speakers. The parameters of recordable audio & sonics are so much greater today that it has improved loudspeaker technology substantially. Good studio monitoring was always a challenge, but now with the range of stuff that's available you can achieve near 100% acoustic accuracy in your studio, without an acoustician on hand for months.
So everything is much more user friendly, but also requires user care - digital housekeeping - plus we are adding some new equipment - Manley devices - SSL 4000 s/ware - Millennium channels and all sorts of goodies in my world. Full on geek head - never to old to learn, it just gets more perplexing at times, ultimately the studio will be an even better place to work.
Ive gotta say, I still love doing this as much as ever, & technology will always offer you a progressive alternative if you are involved in contemporary music, however now is probably the most significant technological change regarding music that I will ever witness - the change from analogue to digital - not just the downloading story, but the whole new opportunity within the creative proposition, is now massive for a young or old artist - & it can only grow more powerful & personal.
Needless to say, we do have significant plans for the forthcoming Andy & Liam material, initially thru-out this coming summer. To attempt to go into detail would be purely spin at this point so I won't. But it will include full live shows, acoustic shows, the best album I can make and "something completely different" along with a large new event for the Autumn.

I thought I might have a quiet summer - but - When I came to it was already spring.

Aus Gründen der Verständlichkeit, habe ich die Interpunktion in der Übersetzung mehr als verdoppelt. Herr Schneider wird es mir nachsehen, denn der Sinn wird dadurch nicht verfälscht.
Ansonsten wird es die üblichen Tippfehler geben und die Bitte, es besser zu machen bzw. zu korrigieren.
Technische Begriffe habe ich nicht übersetzt weil es Fachsprache ist. Kaum ein Tontechniker nutzt deutsche Begriffe…

Nach einer blendenden Geburtstagsparty (organisiert von der wunderbaren Tracey), die etwas länger als geplant dauerte, sind wir in eine Bunker Mentalität verfallen. Um etwas mehr ANDY&LIAM Material fertig zu stellen. Insgesamt 4 neue Songs, weil wir planen, für den Sommer die Arbeit beendet zu haben. … so weit so gut – aber wir sind momentan “davelos” (datt Mädschen für allet) – ein neuer ist auf dem Weg, typisch Ibiza.

Egal. Ich gehöre nicht zu denen, die neue Songtitel bekannt geben, ohne die besagten Lieder auch zu präsentieren – Also werde ich es nicht tun. Ich werde aber innerhalb der nächsten Tage einen neuen Song online Stellen, sobald wir den Text fertig haben. Das heißt, dass einer der derzeitigen Titel entfernt werden wird, weil man nur vier Lieder online stellen kann. Also welchers Lied auch immer ersetzt werden wird, bitte seid nicht verärgert.

Allerdings sind sie auch technische Albträume, die kontinuierliche Pflege und Wartung bedürfen. Und wir befinden uns gerade in der vierteljährlichen Wartung. Ich könnte so speziell werden und fachsimpeln, aber ich werde es nicht tun. Stattdessen werde ich euch einen Einblick geben, worum es geht.

Moderne Aufnahmen werden ausschließlich auf Festplatten gespeichert. Das geht bei 96k – 24 bit mit pro tools HD und man kommt dadurch nah heran an den perfekten Ton. Dies wird erreicht durch eine äußerst Leistungsstarke Software und Bearbeitung, Präzisionssynchronisation und Analog/Digital Umwandlung. Um das volle Potential der neuen Aufnahmesysteme auszuschöpfen muss man nicht nur ein analoges Umfeld für Schlagzeug, Gitarren, Mikrofone und Verstärker usw. („Alte Schule“) instandhalten, sondern auch ein klinisch reines, keimfreies Computerumfeld –auf einer Wüsteninsel ! Geduld wird zu einer Tugend!

Es ist wie die Instandhaltung eines Formel 1 Autos. Oft mit einem anderen Fahrer jeden Tag. Und genau wie Autos können Computer abstürzen – wenn sie überstrapaziert oder die Technik missbraucht wird. Unabhängig davon, dass wir alle die Technik bis auf äußerste ausreizen. Dann entscheidest und gewöhnst du dich an eine Software und schon ist eine neue Version erhältlich.

Gutes Monitoring (Anm.:Kontrollabhörer für den Musiker) im Studio war stets eine Herausforderung, aber jetzt mit der Breite an erhältlichem Material kann man fast 100% akustische Genauigkeit in einem Studio erzeugen, ohne das ein Akustiker auch nur für Monate in der Nähe war.

Also ist alles sehr viel benutzerfreundlicher, aber es bedarf auch der Pflege durch den Anwender – digitales Ordnunghalten. Außerdem fügen wir weitere, neue Geräte hinzu. Manley devices – SSL 4000 software – millennium channels - allerhand tolle Dinge in meiner Welt. Nie zu alt zum Dazulernen, es wird halt manchmal verwirrender, aber letzlich wird das Studio ein besserer Ort zum Arbeiten sein.

Ich muss zugeben, dass ich das immer noch genau wie früher liebe. Und Technologie wird einem immer eine fortschrittliche Alternative bieten, wenn man zeitgenössische Musik macht. Wie acuh immer, momentan findet möglicherweise der größte technologische Wandel in der Musik statt, den ich miterleben werde - und damit meine ich nicht das Downloaden, sondern die Möglichkeiten innerhalb des kreativen Prozesses, es ist gewaltig für einen jungen oder alten Künstler. Und es kann nur noch leistungsfähiger und persönlicher werden.

Unnötig zu sagen, dass wir beachtliche Pläne für das bevorstehende Andy&Liam Material haben, zunächst für den kommenden Sommer. Der Versuch ins Detail zu gehen, wäre pure Spekulation zu diesem Zeitpunkt, also werde ich es lassen. Aber es wird live Konzerte, akustische Sets, das beste Album das ich derzeit machen kann und etwas total anderes im Zusammenhang mit einem neuen Event im Herbst umfassen.

Danke für all die Geburtstagswünsche – das hat gut getan – haltet Ausschau nach dem neuen Song und Liam’s erstem Blog – nun zurück zu den Kabeln und der Software.
