THE line-up for this year’s Birmingham Comedy Festival has been announced with Michael McIntyre topping the bill.
The stand-up comedian, whose father wrote the Kenny Everett show, is set to pack out the National Indoor Arena for three consecutive nights starting on October 7.
There will be plenty of other acts to make Birmingham laugh as a variety of venues across the region host the nation’s top funnymen and women.
Symphony Hall is hosting Gavin and Stacey’s Rob Brydon, with the Glee Club providing the stage for US comic Rich Hall and Mock The Week’s Andy Parsons.
The Station pub in Sutton Coldfield will see cult musician and comedian Neil Innes take centre stage as the festival pays special tribute to Monty Python. A spokesman for the festival organisers, said: “We will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Monty Python with screenings of Monty Python And The Holy Grail and Monty Python’s Life Of Brian at the Electric cinema.
“Neil Innes was a founder of 60s act the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, and worked alongside the Python team during the 60s and 70s, appearing in both films as well as various spin offs, such as The Rutles and Rutland Weekend Television.”
Commenting on the headline act, he added: “Michael’s brilliantly engaging delivery and effortless rapport with the audience has led to him being hailed, by audiences and critics alike, as the best new stand-up to emerge for years.”
Local talent is also set to take a central role in the festivities thanks to Jo Enright, of Britain’s Got The Pop Factor and Lab Rats fame, as well as Mrs Barbara Nice, Nadeem Rangzeb, Craig Deeley, James Cook and Dr Johnny Facade.
A free comedy pub quiz will be held at The Victoria and artist Steve Lilly’s detailed portraits of classic British comedy and an unexpected collaboration between Duran Duran bassist John Taylor and Mexican artist Laureana Toledo at Eastside Projects will complete the line-up.
